This collection consists of printed extracts of two speeches given by Augustus C. Carton, Secretary of the Public Domain Commission and Commissioner of Immigration. The first speech, What the press can do to assist in the development of Michigan, was delivered in Detroit at the annual banquet of the Press Association of Michigan, on Feb. 21, 1914. The second address, on standards of living, or "Necessities" vs. "luxuries", was given at the annual meeting of the Michigan Association of Commercial Secretaries in Muskegon, Mich. on July 24, 1914.
